CPFL Energias Renováveis, the largest generator of energy from renewable sources in Brazil, announces the official launch of 8 of the 13 projects in the Raízes Program. This private social investment program focuses on the economic, environmental, and social development of communities surrounding the company's projects.
The projects're aimed at improving the production and marketing of products and services generated in communities, through the financing of sustainable income-generating initiatives. The launch will take place from September 5th to 9th in the states of Ceará, Minas Gerais, and Rio Grande do Norte.
“The Raízes Program includes social mobilization, participatory planning, project implementation, and participatory community management, which allows for the addition of a strategic business vision, promoting significant results for the communities, and in accordance with CPFL Renováveis' principles of value creation and sustainability in its processes,” emphasizes Camila Sabella, manager of corporate sustainability and social responsibility at CPFL Renováveis.
The first cycle of the program (2013-2015) supported projects related to production chains, tourism, handicrafts, infrastructure, culture, sports and leisure, in the municipalities of São Miguel do Gostoso, Parazinho, João Câmara and Touros (Rio Grande do Norte) and Palmares do Sul (Rio Grande do Sul). In this first phase of the program, 9,188 people were indirectly benefited. For the current cycle of Raízes (2016-2017), all projects follow these pillars: Water Security, Commitment to Future Generations and Production Chains.
